Katherine Ryan and her husband Bobby Kootstra have announced their baby boy has been named Frederick.

The 37-year-old comedian posed for pictures with her childhood sweetheart and their new son on the steps of the Lindo Wing private maternity hospital as they returned home a day after she gave birth.

Kootsra announced on his Instagram account: "Our son Frederick Ryan Kootstra, born June 13th.

"Mom has the reproductive organs of a finely tuned Sportscar, and in a flash raced this baby over the line just in time for kickoff #nedvsukr

The All That Glitters presenter had previously announced the birth of her new baby by teasing on her Instagram stories: "I have a really good reason why yesterday's podcast is late," along with a picture of herself in a hospital bed with her new baby.

Ryan had confirmed she was pregnant just two weeks prior to the birth, at a live recording of her podcast Telling Everybody Everything in London – where her baby bump was clearly visible to the audience.

The Canadian comedian began the podcast during the first UK lockdown amid the coronavirus pandemic and in the very first episode in April 2020 opened up about experiencing a miscarriage 10 weeks into her pregnancy.

She said at the time: "I think it needs to be on the curriculum, I think girls need to know that you can have this secret, silent miscarriage

"I felt like a walking tomb and it took me a month to sort it out to get it out. It's crazy, they don't teach us this in school."

Ryan and Kootstra were high school sweethearts but went their separate ways after breaking-up in their teens. The comedian moved to the UK to pursue her career and ended up becoming a mother to Violet.

She reunited with businessman Kootstra 20 years later on a visit to her home town and they entered into a civil partnership in 2019 with a ceremony in Denmark.
