'Lisa Frankenstein' is written by Diablo Cody and directed by Zelda Williams

Jennifer's Body writer Diablo Cody has a dark new teen comedy coming soon.

Focus Features debuted the first teaser trailer for Lisa Frankenstein on Thursday, starring Kathryn Newton as Lisa Swallows and Cole Sprouse as The Creature in a film directed by Zelda Williams.

Described as a "coming-of-rage love story," Lisa Frankenstein is about a "misunderstood teenager and her high school crush, who happens to be a handsome corpse," per a synopsis.

"After a set of playfully horrific circumstances bring him back to life, the two embark on a murderous journey to find love, happiness … and a few missing body parts along the way."

The cast also includes Liza Soberano, Henry Eikenberry, Joe Chrest and Carla Gugino.

Screenwriter Cody, 45, won an Oscar in 2008 for Juno. Since then, she wrote the 2009 cult comedy Jennifer's Body starring Megan Fox, plus the Charlize Theron films Young Adult (2011) and Tully (2018), among other projects.

Lisa Frankenstein is the feature directorial debut for Williams, 34, whose father is late actor-comedian Robin Williams.

Last year, Williams expressed her excitement for the project, tweeting at the time, "I know Hollywood gets a bad rep for regurgitating sequels and remakes and reboots over and over and over… and yeah, it totally does that!"

"But," she continued, "it's also finally letting me make the most bonkers, wonderful zombie script I've ever read, and for that, I will be forever grateful!"
