Katie Holmes may be one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, but she's more than happy to share the spotlight with her lookalike daughter, Suri Noelle. Born on April 18, 2006 to Holmes and her then-husband Tom Cruise, Suri most recently made headlines for reportedly dropping her dad's surname at her high school graduation.

Holmes and Cruise divorced back in 2012, and since then, Suri has lived full-time with her mom in New York City. Now that she has officially left the nest for Carnegie Mellon University, however, the pair are spending a lot more time apart.

"Of course, I will miss the close proximity," Holmes told Town & Country. "But I’m really proud of her and I’m happy."

Ahead, here's everything that Katie Holmes has said about life with her daughter, Suri Noelle Cruise.

She's a college student in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Meaning, in other words, that Holmes is officially an empty nester. When asked about her daughter's new chapter for an interview with Town & Country, the Dawson's Creek alum recalled her own experience growing up in the 1980s and '90s in Toledo, Ohio.

"I remember being this age, this time of beginnings. It’s exciting to learn about yourself, and I loved that time, so it makes me happy to think about it like that,” she said, before jokingly adding: “The members of my book club are going to get annoyed hearing from me. I’ll be like, ‘Let’s meet once a week.'"

She spent most of her childhood in New York City.

After Holmes and Cruise split in 2012, they agreed that Holmes would raise Suri in New York City. She eventually enrolled at LaGuardia High School, a performing arts school that also counts Timothée Chalamet and Jennifer Aniston among its alumni.

"The city has a lot to offer, and I use it," Holmes told InStyle. "Yes, it's a little too exposed at times, and we work hard to maneuver and navigate. But what I love about New York is that for me and my child, this is our vibe. When there are 25 things to do every night, it takes you out of your own thing. And you know what else I discovered? There's a place not far from my house that does foot massages until midnight. That's what New York offers!"

Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise collaborated on two movies.

Given that Suri is the daughter of Hollywood royalty, it was perhaps only a matter of time before she was brought to set by one of her parents. Her first official collaboration didn't come until 2022, however, when she sung in Holmes's film Alone Together. She followed that up with another song on 2023's Rare Objects.

“I hope she always does something on my films,” Holmes told Glamour. “I always ask her. But both of those experiences came out of the same sense of what I love about our industry, which is, you have these projects and you become a family with people. And it’s this safe, beautiful, creative space.”

She continued, “So it comes out of love for me to include someone who I love dearly. That’s how I like to work. I like to have that kind of feeling. It was very meaningful to me to have her there, because she’s my heart.”

Katie Holmes is protective of Suri Cruise's privacy.

Understandably so. In the same Glamour interview from 2023, Holmes explained that she feels the need to "protect" Suri from the spotlight.

"What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her," she said. "I'm very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She's an incredible person."

The mother-daughter duo support each other's creative pursuits.

Despite moving to a different state to begin her university studies in the fall of 2024, Suri still found time to support her mom's return to the Broadway stage for Our Town. In fact, the college student returned to New York City from her first semester away just in time to surprise Holmes on her 46th birthday. The reunion was captured by the actress on video, and she was quick to express her gratitude.

"I am so grateful for all my blessings," Holmes wrote on Instagram. "Especially my daughter."

It wasn't the first time that Holmes had gushed about Suri, of course. In 2020, she spoke at length about her daughter's strength and confidence despite growing up in the spotlight.

"I love her so much," she told InStyle. "My biggest goal has always been to nurture her into her individuality. To make sure she is 100 percent herself and strong, confident, and able. And to know it. She came out very strong—she's always been a strong personality. She'll pick an activity and work her butt off until she's really good at it. Then she's like, 'Okay, I'm going to try the next thing' She's very focused and a hard worker."
