Katy Perry channels California Gurls candy floss music video in Vivienne Westwood Coronation look
One of the biggest surprises in the build up to King Charles III’s Coronation was that the headline act for the official concert at Windsor castle would be Katy Perry - that of Dark Horse, Firework and Peacock acclaim.
But as she was spotted arriving at the service this morning, it was another of her hits she appeared to have taken inspiration from for her look: California Gurls. The music video sees the American singer roll naked in clouds of pink candy floss, as she sings the perenial lines “California girls, we’re unforgettable. Daisy dukes, bikinis on top.” It was an alltogther smarter take on the theme, however, as Perry looked sweet but sophisticated in a sugary Vivienne Westwood look at Westminster Abbey.
Arriving alongside Editor of British Vogue, Edward Enninful, Perry wore a rounded cut pink blazer with matching over-the-knee skirt, bicep high gloves and a flying saucer style hat with fish netting. To finish the look, she paid tribute to the late Queen of Punk fashion Vivienne Westwood, wearing a bold pearl necklace featuring the designer’s signature orb logo, as well as a sophisticated white clutch with matching branding.
The custom look, the company have said in a statement, has been handcrafted in soft leatherette taken from the Vivienne Westwood fabric archives and is finished with a purple silk flower corsage.
More arrivals are expected shortly, before the royal procession from Buckingham Palace begins at 10:20am.
