Katy Perry publicly ended Taylor Swift feud to be 'example of redemption' for young girls

Katy Perry has revealed why she and Taylor Swift decided to publicly end their long-running feud.

The pair officially put an end to the animosity last year as they reunited for Perry's You Need To Calm Down video in which they embraced while Swift, 30, wore a French fry costume and Perry, 35, donned a hamburger outfit.

Speaking on Howard Stern's SiriusXM radio show, Perry said: "Gossip and lies, they take the elevator. But the truth takes the stairs, and it just takes time. Time will tell my story.

"What I’m so grateful for is that we did get to make up and we made up publicly, and we got to be an example of redemption for young girls.”

She added: “It’s hard for young girls, growing up [with] cliques and high school and pettiness and all that stuff so now we’re super friendly and I’ve always wanted the best for her and we can talk about the best we want for each other.”

The dispute allegedly stemmed from three dancers, who had previously worked with Perry, leaving Swift's Red world tour early to join Perry's tour for 2013 album Prism.

The Shake It Off singer went on to seemingly reference the incident in a 2014 interview with Rolling Stone, although did not name Perry.

The day after the interview's release, Perry referenced the film Mean Girls while tweeting: "Watch out for the Regina George in sheep's clothing..."

Several other apparent barbed references to the other singer appeared in each artist's work, including Swift's song Bad Blood.

In May 2018, Perry sent Swift an olive branch - literally - which appeared to be the first sign a reconciliation was in motion.

Elsewhere, there’s been happy news for Perry this year as she’s expecting a baby girl with partner Orlando Bloom.
