Yahoo News Katy Perry undergoes a dramatic transformation for American Idol
Katy Perry has surprised her fans with a dramatic new look for American Idol's Disney Night.
The singer took to the judges' table on Sunday (April 21) dressed up as The Little Mermaid's notorious villain Ursula – complete with purple face and body paint, bright red lipstick, wavy grey hair and the sea witch's distinctive tentacles.
Katy's co-stars Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan didn't join in with the Disney theme – at least when it came to their outfits, instead dressing as themselves.
Taking to Instagram, Katy shared snaps of her transformation and included a perfect Little Mermaid pun in her caption, writing: "Tonight there will be some poor unfortunate souls. Tune in to @AmericanIdol now and VOTE!"

Katy and Pirates of the Caribbean actor Orlando Bloom recently shared the exciting news of their engagement.
The couple first got together three years ago, and in an Instagram post announcing their engagement, Katy showed off an impressive diamond ring shaped like a flower.
Katy and Orlando previously split for some time back in March 2017, saying in a statement at the time that they were "taking space" from each other. They got back together the following year.
The couple's upcoming marriage will be the second time both Katy and Orlando have tied the knot.
Katy married Russell Brand in 2010 but they got divorced two years later – reportedly after he asked her via text.
Orlando was married to Australian model Miranda Kerr between 2010 and 2013, and the two have an 8-year-old son, Flynn Christopher Bloom.
