He told just days ago how he had quit booze at the beginning of the year, but shared a sad update with fans over the weekend where he said he had relapsed after achieving 100 days of sobriety.

Kavana, 43, tweeted: "Ok. I think it's important for me to be transparent about my recovery. I relapsed after 100 days of sobriety. I feel guilty and sick and I hate myself after letting the people I love down. I thought I knew better. I have to start again."

There was an outpouring of support for the singer to start his sobriety journey again as fans shared their own advice on battling addiction and urged him not to give up his battle.

It seemed to help as the next day, Kavana tweeted: "Thankyou so much for all the messages of support today is a new day!"

Kavana wrote: "Mental health is not to be laughed at.I just dragged myself out of a relapse with booze. Nikkies passing is yet another sign the government must put out more funds into mental health. It's no joke."

At the end of March, he had shared his sobriety success with fans, tweeting: "3 Months sober today. I've been here before but certainly feel a sense of freedom and clarity this time. If you are struggling there is no shame in reaching out, in fact it shows strength. And trust me - it helps!"

Following his 90s chart success, Kavana joined forces with Dane Bowers, Gareth Gates, Kenzie and Adam Rickitt for group 5th Story who took part in 2014 show The Big Reunion.

In 2015, he took part in Celebrity Big Brother.
