Keane have announced plans to return to Manchester following the cancellation of a recent gig that was scheduled to take place at Co-op Live.

The British rock group, who today celebrate 20 years since the release of their debut album Hopes and Fears, had planned to perform at the £365 million arena last Sunday (May 5) as part of an anniversary celebration tour.

But the show was cancelled after a nozzle from an air conditioning unit fell from the ceiling in the venue during a soundcheck ahead of a performance from American rapper A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie.

As bosses continued to carry out safety inspections and worked on completing the venue, the rapper’s show was cancelled last minute before being rescheduled to the AO Arena last Saturday. Two performances from Olivia Rodrigo were also postponed whilst Take That’s epic run of five shows this week were forced to be relocated to the AO Arena.

At the time, Keane issued a statement to say that they were ‘absolutely gutted not to be able to celebrate 20 years of Hopes and Fears at the Co-op Live’. The band said: “This is due to on-going technical issues at the venue and is entirely beyond our control.

“We’ve tried extremely hard to find a solution as we know so many of you have made travel plans, but it's just not been possible. We are really disappointed that this has happened and are doing all we can to reschedule the show.”

Now, it has been announced that the band will return to the city-region with a show at Co-op Live on October 19. They will be joined with support from The Lathums during the show. In a new statement, the band said: "We’re pleased to announce that our gig at Manchester Co-op Live will be rescheduled for Saturday 19th October 2024.

"This show is very special to us and we want to make sure we can give you the best possible experience. Thank you for bearing with us and for your love and support. We look forward to celebrating 20 years of Hopes and Fears with you. Tom, Tim, Richard, Jesse x"

Fans with tickets for the original show will be contacted in due course by their ticket providers.

Meanwhile, Co-op Live is currently set to officially open on May 14 with a show from Elbow.
