Kendall Jenner is 'laying low' following controversial Pepsi advert

Last week, we were all left pretty shocked when Pepsi unveiled their latest advert, featuring supermodel Kendall Jenner.

The commercial sparked widespread outrage as it appeared to trivialise important protests, such as Black Lives Matter, as well as the issue of police brutality by showing Kendall seemingly resolve political issues by handing a police officer a can of Pepsi during a protest.

Less than 24 hours after the ad first aired it was pulled by Pepsi, who issued an apology for the offence caused and also publicly apologised to Kendall for putting her in such a compromising position.

Now the star is said to be laying low as she waits for the controversy to die down, with a source telling PEOPLE: “Kendall is still not happy about the controversy.

“She plans on laying low until things calm down. She still talks about it a lot and has support from her family.

“She is spending a quiet weekend with her family.”

The insider went on to add that Kendall hopes that critics are aware that the concept of the ad was not her idea, explaining: “She has been very upset, she feels terrible.

“She loves being a model, to get a Pepsi gig was a big deal and she was very excited.

“She never expected it to receive such backlash, she hopes people understand that she wasn’t involved in the creative process.”

Last Wednesday, Pepsi said in a statement: “Pepsi was trying to project a global message of unity, peace and understanding.

“Clearly we missed the mark, and we apologise. We did not intend to make light of any serious issue.

“We are removing the content and halting any further rollout. We also apologise for putting Kendall Jenner in this position.”

Neither Kendall or any of her famous family have publicly commented on the Pepsi backlash.
