All the key developments planned for Greater Manchester this week

Hundreds of new homes and bed spaces for students, residents and hotel guests alike have been raised with Greater Manchester councils this week.

In Bolton, plans for a new six-storey student housing block have been put on the table. This would contain 97 student flats on the land currently home to a luxury car showroom in Bolton town centre.

Over in Rochdale, the first steps towards a massive plan for more than 300 new homes, a primary school and a car parking extension in Littleborough have been submitted to the council.

In Manchester, proposals for a new Dakota Hotel containing 154 rooms next to the airport have been touted.

Here is a breakdown of each borough’s submitted planning applications this week

Bolton

Plans to create 97 student flats in new six-storey building over high performance car showroom

A six-storey block containing 97 student flats is planned above a luxury car showroom near Bolton town centre.

AA Performance Cars Ltd, at Thynne Street, Bolton have applied for planning permission for a multi-storey mixed-use building with ground floor commercial use with a student halls of residence at first floor and above.

The firm, which describes itself as family run, markets ‘high quality prestige and performance vehicles’ including Lamborghinis, Land Rovers and Audis.

Bury

Council 'seeking options' for temporary library for Radcliffe as current building to become 'enterprise centre'

Sites across Radcliffe are being considered for a temporary library as the clock ticks towards the current building closing in three months.

The present library is to be converted into a £1.7M Enterprise Centre with work set to start in September. The space will provide a range of private offices and bookable hot desks for up to 100 occupiers and will be managed by a third-party operator.

Swimming pool building set to be converted to form part of shared house for 10 people

A swimming pool building is part of plans to create a shared house for ten people in Prestwich.

Plans submitted to Bury Council in the past week show the intention to convert the property on Grosvenor Street in the a 10-bed house of multiple occupation (HMO).

The single storey building in the grounds of a detached house was formerly used as a swimming school.

Dakota hotel could be built near Manchester Airport

A new Dakota hotel could be built next to Manchester Airport, according to recently-submitted plans.

The hotel chain — which already has a branch in the city centre — is hoping to build a seven-storey block with space for 154 rooms. It would also have a 130-space car park on-site.

It would be built on Enterprise Way, only 0.8 miles from terminal two, and just over a mile to terminals one and three and the Airport’s railway and Metrolink stations.

Oldham

No new significant planning applications have been submitted to Oldham Council this week.

Rochdale

Early plans for massive housing development and primary school next to local beauty spot lodged

Initial plans to build more than 300 new homes, a primary school and a car parking extension in Littleborough have been submitted to the council.

Developer Bloor Homes wants to transform around 21.3 hectares of farmland next to Hollingworth Lake. The first set of plans, which are for ‘scoping opinion’, have been lodged.

Bloor Homes has already launched its consultation regarding the potential for 315 homes beside land designated for a new primary school and the extension of the visitor car park at Hollingworth Lake Country Park.

New college block will boost student capacity by 300

Plans for a new teaching block to boost Altrincham College’s teaching capacity from almost 900 to nearly 1,200 students have been submitted.

Contractor Lancaster Maloney Martin (LMM) has been appointed to deliver a two and three-storey building to accommodate an additional 31 classrooms as well as a larger kitchen and restaurant, car parking and new fencing. There will also be additional storerooms, pupil toilets, staff workroom and offices. Currently,

Plan to convert undertaker’s into house of multiple occupation

Plans have been submitted to convert a Co-operative funeral care premises into a house of multiple occupation (HMO) for eight people.

The scheme for the property on Prospect Street, Tyldesley, has appeared on Wigan council’s planning portal. Applicant Ryan Wrigley, of Pendle Court, Leigh is asking for a change of use to an HMO with eight bedrooms for eight people together with a first-floor gable window and external alterations.

A document submitted by the Swinton-based agent, R A Fisk and Associates, says the HMO will be run in a ‘suitable manner’.
