Key new Hibs role could have direct impact on Brian McDermott as Bill Foley impact felt

Hibs could appoint a technical director as part of the Bill Foley-led review into the footballing operation at Easter Road.

The development places a question mark over director of football Brian McDermott who could be moved into a new, recruitment-focused position underneath a new man. Billionaire Bournemouth owner Foley has seen the Cherries flourish with Liverpool-bound former Scotland international Richard Hughes working wonders in the technical director position. And it’s understood the American - whose 25 per cent stake in Hibs sees his Black Knight consortium rewarded with two seats on the board - is keen on seeing a similar set-up at Easter Road.

Hibs announced a root and branch review of their footballing operation last week after a draw at Motherwell condemned the club to what they admitted was a “simply unacceptable” bottom six finish.

Insiders say the review is in the very early stages with nothing being set in stone. Foley’s Black Knight organisation - which owns the Vegas Golden Knights ice hockey team as well as Premier League Bournemouth and a minority stake in French club FC Lorient and the new A-League franchise Auckland FC - is leading the review.

McDermott’s position is up for discussion just a year after the former Reading manager was appointed at Hibs. He played a key role in hiring Nick Montgomery from Central Coast Mariners in September following the sacking of Lee Johnson.
