Key road near Port of Dover to close from Bank Holiday weekend for over a week
A key road near the Port of Dover is set to close for over a week, starting from this Bank Holiday weekend. Union Street in Dover will shut from Saturday, May 4 for maintenance works.
The road will be closed up to its junction with the A20 while works are carried out to the suspended deck of the carriageway. This closure is scheduled to remain in place for a total eight days, with the works expected to be completed by Sunday, May 12.
Traffic management will be in place while the road is shut, with drivers needing to follow a diversion route while the road is shut. The Port of Dover team added: “Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.”

This is not the only major road closure impacting travel around Kent on the Bank Holiday weekend. National Highways has confirmed that a key stretch of the M20 between Ashford and Maidstone will also see closures across the weekend.
The London-bound carriageway is set to shut overnight on Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5 with drivers again needing to follow a diversion during this time. Full details on this closure and the diversion route can be found here.
