Add this to the Christmas list: kids go free at the Royal Opera House this December and January, as the venue is launching their first ever Cinema Festival.

Free children’s tickets will be available for screenings of 11 opera and ballet performances between December 3 and January 6, including all Saturday and Sunday matinee performances.

Available for children from five to 15 years old, the season opens with the Royal Ballet’s The Nutcracker on December 3.

Other performances in the run up to Christmas will include ballets La Fille mal gardee (December 8), Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (December 15) and Swan Lake (December 22). Mozart’s The Magic Flute (December 9) and Cendrillon (December 16) are among the operatic offerings. In January, Romeo and Juliet and the Royal Ballet’s Giselle close up the festival.

The free tickets come as part of a family package, with a maximum of four children per two paying adults. All screenings take place in the Linbury Theatre.
