Manchester City FC is among clubs taking part in a football summer camps programme led by Manchester-based cereal giant, Kellogg's.

The camps are aimed at children aged 7-14 of all abilities and promise a 'safe, fun and engaging' environment for Manchester's kids during the summer holidays.

Local clubs Bolton Wanderers, Salford City and Stockport County will also be featuring in the camps.

To celebrate the announcement of the camps, Kellogg's is giving away 30,000 free spaces before the nationwide programme kicks off this summer.

Organisers cite research in which 90 per cent of parents said they would like their child to experience less screen time and more outdoor activities this summer holiday, with 69 percent saying they feel there are not enough local, accessible activities for their children to stay active during the summer holidays. City and Kellogg's now hope to help change that.

Speaking on the camps, Nedum Onuoha, former Manchester City Player and CITC Board of Trustees member said: "Growing up in East Manchester, I took part in City in the Community summer football sessions, which were then led by Alex Williams, so I know first-hand the positive impact they can have on young lives.

"Now a Trustee of the charity, I am all too aware of the continued need for young people to access a safe and productive space during the holidays. Our purpose is to empower healthier lives through football – an ethos that clearly also rings true for Manchester-born Kellogg’s.”

To show their support Manchester City Women stars, including Chloe Kelly, who scored the winning goal in the Women's Euros Final against Germany, surprised a group of young players when they trained at the Etihad Campus. Kelly was joined by Demi Stokes and Ruby Mace.

City say they joined up with Kellogg's in rolling out these camps in order to 'expand' their free football sessions to local children 'who need it the most'.

Mike Geary, City in the Community CEO said of City’s involvement: “We are delighted to be working with Kellogg’s to get more young people active during the summer holidays.

"City in the Community has been delivering free inclusive football sessions out of term time for decades now, targeting local children who need it most,"

"However, this new initiative will enable us to expand our offering during the summer by also welcoming those who sign up through the ‘Kellogg’s Football Camps’ initiative.”

The camps led by Manchester City will take place at the City football academy on the Etihad Campus this summer.
