Kiefer Sutherland Remembers Father Donald Sutherland As “One Of The Most Important Actors In The History Of Film”

Actor Kiefer Sutherland on Thursday remembered his late father, actor Donald Sutherland, in a touching message on social media.

“With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away,” Kiefer wrote on X/Twitter after news today that Donald Sutherland died at age 88 after a long illness. “I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film. Never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that. A life well lived.”

The message was accompanied by a black and white photo of Donald holding toddler Kiefer, who of course would grow up to become a successful actor in his own right on 24 and other projects, in his arms.

Donald Sutherland starred in such classic films as The Dirty Dozen, MASH, Klute, Animal House, Ordinary People and The Hunger Games franchise, among many others. He died at 88 today in Miami after a long illness.
