Four months after Lucy Letby was found guilty of murdering seven infants in a British hospital, she has officially been struck off the nursing registry, according to multiple reports.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council found Letby unfit to practice after she was convicted in August of murdering seven infants and attempting to murder six others, the BBC, The Guardian and Manchester Evening News report. She was sentenced to life in prison three days later.

Despite the conviction, Letby — who worked in the neonatal ward of the Countess of Chester Hospital in Chester, England — reportedly maintains her innocence.

According to the BBC, Letby was not present during the hearing but did participate in a "tick-box exercise" prior to it, where she "ticked" yes to the charges she was convicted of, but stated in part, "I accept the fact of the convictions. However, I do not accept that I am guilty of any of the allegations."

Letby was removed from the neonatal ward in 2016, after senior hospital staff grew suspicious following a year of mysterious deaths and near-deaths of infants. During her 10-month trial, an array of disturbing allegations against the British nurse emerged, including that she killed two of three triplets within 24 hours of each other, per the BBC, and that she allegedly wrote, "I killed them on purpose" on a sticky note found, The Guardian reported. The 11-person jury was undecided on attempted murder charges in connection with the cases of an additional four babies.

Letby will face a retrial on an attempted murder charge in June 2024.
