‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ Is the Most Anticipated Movie Coming in October

The upcoming “Killers of the Flower Moon” is bringing the Western genre back into center stage this October.

The film took the top spot on Whip Media’s Movie Anticipation Report for the month, based on viewing intent data from TV Time, Whip Media’s TV and movie tracking app with more than 28 million global registered users. Not only that, the crime drama has already received mass critical acclaim, perhaps making up for its various production complications for distributors Apple and Paramount.

Stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert de Niro, and Lily Gladstone play the leads of the highly anticipated film, which is an adaptation of the 2017 book of the same name by author David Grann. Serving as both director and producer, Martin Scorsese also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Eric Roth, marking his latest in a series of collaborations with DiCaprio and de Niro.

Following September’s horror releases, “Five Nights at Freddy’s” takes the No. 2 spot as the most anticipated film in the genre this October. The supernatural horror movie is an adaptation of the extremely popular video game series of the same name and has been in development hell since 2015 after facing many production delays. It is scheduled to release simultaneously in theaters and on Peacock days before Halloween.

“The Exorcist: Believer” is set to resurrect the iconic ‘Exorcist’ horror franchise, as it takes third place this month. Serving as a direct sequel to the original 1973 film, it is slated to create its own unholy trinity, as Universal has announced intentions to develop two sequels.

Set for an exclusive release on Prime Video, the comedy horror movie “Totally Killer” takes fourth place. The Blumhouse-produced film stars Kiernan Shipka who plays a young woman who must travel back in time with her mom, who is played by Julie Bowen, to stop a killer and change their timeline.

Fifth place goes to another film set for a streaming-exclusive release this month, “Pet Sematary: Bloodlines” which will debut on Paramount+. The movie serves as a prequel to “Pet Sematary,” Stephen King’s novel of the same name which had two adaptations, first in 1989 and again in 2019.

Crime drama “Pain Hustlers” takes No. 6 this month; the film will have a limited theatrical release before its exclusive streaming debut on Netflix.

Seventh place goes to another book adaptation, “Foe”, a sci-fi psychological thriller directed by Garth Davis. The film stars Saoirse Ronan in the role of Henrietta, a woman whose husband is notified by a stranger that he will be sent to a space station, while she will be accompanied by a robot.

The upcoming concert film “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” places eighth this month. The film made headlines for Swift’s unprecedented distribution strategy with movie theater chains AMC and Cinemark, and for spurring distributors to shift release dates for several films.

Wrapping up the rankings this month at No. 10, “Old Dads” is another film that is set for a streaming-exclusive release this month. Set to be released on Netflix, the comedy stars Bill Burr and marks his directorial debut.
