The heartbroken family of a 'kind and caring' man, killed in a horrific crash between six vehicles in Rossendale, have paid tribute to him.

Michael McTaggart, 20, from Rossendale, died at the scene of the major collision on Burnley Road East in the early hours of Sunday (May 19).

The Renault Megane he was driving smashed into another car, a Ford Kuga, at around 3am. Michael's Megane then collided with another car, as the Kuga was ploughed into three other parked cars.

Michael sustained catastrophic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other passengers in the Megane were taken to hospital for treatment.

Paying tribute to Michael, his family said: “Michael Pearce McTaggart, aged 20, has sadly passed away following a road traffic collision in Rossendale. He was an avid drummer in his spare time and played in multiple bands.

“Growing up, Michael was a pupil at Haslingden High School and more recently worked as a carer, a testament to his kind and caring nature. He was the beloved son of Paul and Joan, and sibling to Kurt, Matthew and Nicole, and he will be deeply missed by his family and friends.”

Burnley Road East was closed in both directions for a number of hours after the fatal crash, with officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit carrying out investigations at the scene.

Officers investigating the collision are continuing to appeal for residents on Burnley Road East – between Waterfoot and the scene of the collision - who have CCTV/ring door bell footage, to contact police. Any drivers with dashcam footage are also asked to report it to Lancashire Constabulary.
