Yahoo News King Charles Attends Easter Services Amid Cancer Treatment
Today, King Charles and Queen Camilla joined members of the royal family at church in Windsor for Easter Sunday services.
King Charles's appearance at St. George's Chapel this morning marks his first major public appearance since January, when he first stepped back from duties for a benign prostate issue. Buckingham Palace later announced he had been diagnosed with cancer, though they did not specify what type of cancer.
In early February, the Palace said, "His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual." They added, "His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer."
Since, King Charles has been photographed attending church at Sandringham, and has taken private meetings, including with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, but has largely remained out of the public eye.
In an interview last weekend, his nephew Peter Phillips shared an update on the King, saying, "He's frustrated that he can't get on and do everything that he wants to be able to do. But he is very pragmatic, he understands that there's a period of time that he really needs to focus on himself." Phillips added, He's obviously very keen to get back to a form of normality. And he's probably frustrated that recovery is taking a little longer than probably he would want it to."
The Palace has given no set timeline for Charles's return to public engagements, and has said they would not be providing regular updates on his health or treatment.
