King Charles III is on the lookout for a new addition to his Royal staff - with a dedicated fan mail correspondent.

The 75-year-old monarch is seeking to employ an individual to respond to the plethora of letters sent to him, offering an annual salary of £25,642.50 (Pro Rata).

Buckingham Palace has recently advertised for an Assistant Correspondence Officer position, based at the palace itself. The role involves a 37.5-hour workweek, so it roughly equates to an hourly salary of £13.15. This is the same as the current London Living Wage. It is a Fixed Term Contract, starting in June and ending in February 2025.

Interested parties have until 4th May to submit their applications. The successful applicant will be tasked with crafting replies to "each" of the "thousands" of pieces of correspondence the king and the Royal family receive annually.

The role doesn't require specific qualifications but does requires previous administrative experience with excellent written/verbal communication skills. It also requires strong organizational abilities to handle high volumes of work under deadlines, and proficiency in drafting correspondence and using IT systems with meticulous attention to detail. Additionally, it seeks a proactive team player interested in current affairs who can "work collaboratively in a unique environment".

The job description reads: "It's drafting a letter that someone will never forget. It's working in a team with a shared and unique purpose, engaging with the public whilst supporting The King's role. This is what makes working for The Royal Household so exceptional.

"Thousands of letters addressed to The Monarch and Royal Family are received every year. Working as part of the Correspondence team, your challenge will be to ensure that each one receives a timely and well composed response. Every day you will respond to letters sent by the public regarding social, community and national matters, drafting bespoke responses to answer varying and often unique queries.

"Recording and monitoring all correspondence, you'll be proud of the number of letters you handle and this will drive you to deliver consistently high standards. In this way, you will help to support the important work of The King and The Royal Family."
