King Charles was visibly moved as he commenced his birthday parade over the weekend. Currently receiving treatment for cancer, the King departed Buckingham Palace by carriage with Queen Camilla.

Medical professionals recommended that Charles review the Trooping the Colour from the comfort of the Ascot Landau carriage, rather than on horseback as per the previous year.

Despite the London rain, the 75-year-old monarch greeted onlookers with smiles and waves along The Mall, maintaining high spirits amidst the downpour. Following in a carriage were Princess Kate, 42, and her children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Engaged in conversation, Charles and Camilla absorbed the grandeur around them, during which the King made a heartfelt confession to his wife.

Lip reader Nicola Hickling reported that Charles confided to Camilla: "Oh dear, I don't know why I'm feeling rather tearful." Completing the military parade with a salute, the King seemed to compose himself, holding back further emotion, reports the Mirror.

Later in the day, he was accompanied by his family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to witness the spectacular RAF flypast, promising to be another significant event.

The King has had a packed schedule, earlier in the week making an appearance at the inaugural awards ceremony of the King's Foundation, rubbing shoulders with celebrities such as Sir Rod Stewart and David Beckham. He also presided over a ceremony at Windsor Castle on Monday, where he lauded the "professionalism, courage and humour" of the Irish Guards ahead of their central role in today's Trooping the Colour.

During a ceremony at Windsor Castle, Charles commended Number 9 and 12 Companies, Irish Guards, as he presented them with new colours. He praised their efforts during the Covid pandemic and their "vital work to counter terrorism in Iraq and to bolster security across Africa".

Just last week, his hectic itinerary took him to Portsmouth and Normandy for the 80th anniversary commemorations of D-Day. However, Prince William stepped in for him at one event during the commemorations, deemed a "step too far" amidst his cancer treatment.

This saw William attending an international event at Omaha Beach alongside world leaders including US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron.

A Royal insider revealed last week: "While His Majesty's doctors are very encouraged with the progress made so far, the King is continuing with his treatment programme - and thus we have to prioritise and protect his continued recovery. On that basis, each event/day has to be carefully calibrated - and given the King's other commitments on the day, it was advised that the international event later in the afternoon may be a step too far at this stage. He is of course delighted that the Prince of Wales will be attending to represent the nation."

An earlier announcement confirmed Kate's attendance at the celebration of the King's official birthday alongside her family. The Palace shared a statement from the Princess of Wales, where she expressed having "good days and bad days" amid her preventative chemotherapy treatment.

Accompanying her heartfelt message was a stunning new photo captured by renowned celebrity and royal photographer Matt Porteous.

Kate also conveyed her desire to "hopes to join a few public engagements over the summer" while she undergoes cancer treatment "for a few months". It is believed that the future Queen's decision to participate in Trooping the Colour is a gesture of solidarity with her children, her family, and her affection for the King.

Charles's spokesperson stated that His Majesty was "delighted" with Kate's decision to attend.
