Prince Louis made his first public appearance in a tie on Sunday as he joined the King and Queen for the first Easter Sunday service of the new monarch’s reign.

The King and Queen led the family through the grounds of Windsor Castle to St George’s Chapel as they wished the crowds a “Happy Easter”, followed by the Princess Royal and Duke of York.

The four-year-old Louis walked alongside his parents – the Prince and Princess of Wales – as well as his siblings, and was dressed smartly in a pair of powder blue shorts, a bicycle-print tie and dark jacket.

It was the young prince’s first time attending the Easter Sunday service, and he held his mother’s hand as he and his family made their way towards the church.

The Queen Consort opted for the same colour, donning a royal blue coat dress by Anna Valentine and Philip Treacy hat with Queen Elizabeth II’s diamond love knot brooch.

The Earl and Countess of Wessex arrived with their son James, Viscount Severn. Their daughter, Lady Louise, did not attend.

Princess Beatrice and her husband, Eduardo Mapelli Mozzi, also made an appearance, as did her sister Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, and Zara and Mike Tindall alongside their two daughters, Mia and Lena.

The party was met by the Dean of Windsor at the Galilee Porch and invited inside the chapel for the hour-long Easter Sunday Mattins service, beginning at 10.45am.

It is the first Easter Sunday service to take place since the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The late Queen was buried last year alongside her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, in Windsor Castle’s King George VI Memorial Chapel.

The family gathered at St George’s Chapel in September for the late monarch’s committal service and private burial following her state funeral in Westminster Abbey.

His Majesty followed in the footsteps of his mother, who always held Easter at her beloved Berkshire residence – although she missed last April’s Easter Sunday service owing to mobility problems.

Sunday marked the King and Queen’s 18th wedding anniversary and the second anniversary of Prince Philip’s death.

In less than a month’s time, the King will be crowned alongside his wife in a religious service at Westminster Abbey.
