King Charles and Prince William have considered stripping Meghan Markle and Prince Harry of their royal titles according to an expert.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made their dramatic exit from the Firm back in 2020 before they relocated to the US to start a new life.

The former royal couple now reside in Montecito, California with their two kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, far from their old lives in the monarchy.

Since moving across the pond, Harry and Meghan have taken part in several eye raising projects where they have made bombshell claims about their time in the Royal Family, causing tensions between themselves and the duke's estranged family.

Despite this, the Sussexes proudly sat in chairs labelled 'Duke' and 'Duchess' during their recent tour of Nigeria and were "delighted" to have their royal titles on display, the Mirror reports.

Royal author and expert Tom Quinn told The Mirror that King Charles and Prince William "have had lengthy discussions about stripping Meghan and Harry of their royal titles, but they are terrified this would backfire and make the situation worse".

Mr Quinn explained: "The last thing they want is to give the renegade royals something else to complain about.

"William and his father know that even without their royal titles Meghan and Harry would carry on travelling the world as if they were royals and most people in the world will still welcome them."

When they stepped down from their senior royal duties over four years ago, the couple maintained their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles but were told they would no longer be referred to as his or her Royal highness.

Harry also gave up his military titles upon their departure from the monarchy and UK.

They further confirmed their bond with the Royal Family earlier this year by renaming their website 'Sussex.com', where they flaunt their status as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex along with a coat of arms representation.

The website showcases a snapshot of the duo, with the caption: "The Office of Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex".

Their introductory page also outlines their qualifications, brief bios, and updates on their activities such as their recent Nigeria journey.
