Kirstie Allsopp says people who use plug-in air fresheners in home are 'morons'

Kirstie Allsopp has branded everyone who uses plug-in air freshers in their home "a moron". The presenter, who is a Channel 4 staple, is best known for her cosy craft shows and appearing in Location, Location Location and spin-off Relocation Relocation.

She tweeted: "Regular Tweet Plug in air fresheners are poison. If you use them you are a moron who is poisoning yourself, your family & your pets. No reason for them whatsoever." A Twitter/X user replied: "You know, while I agree with you on this issue, I find your sneering manner of stating utterly repellant."

"Also who uses a plastic product that you cannot recycled to push toxins into the atmosphere of their home, really, who does that?" the property expert then asked. Another said: "I live in a very old building that suffers from extreme damp, especially when the old moat leaks into the lower floors.

"There is simply no other way to stop the smell without the plug in air fresheners." Another said: "How to do you feel about scented candles or room sprays? I got a room spray gift set for Christmas and honestly don’t like the idea of using them that much."

"I use them *occasionally* on a pretty large rotation of various other items that add scent to my house (anything from essential oil clay diffusers to real flowers) because I'm a massive sensory seeker and when I'm dysregulated certain scents help me not lose my marbles and I'm severely annoyed by myself for that fact," said a fellow fan.

Kirstie reasoned: "I don’t think our homes need to be scented. But I like essential oils in a bath, so my home does get a bit scented by that." Another sniped: "What an unpleasant & unnecessary way to communicate an issue.

"There may well be issues subject to amounts used & the type of VOC’s emitted, we only use them sparingly & we are not ‘morons’ - I’m sure you are aware that ALL cleaning products have the potential for harm, wear a mask when you clean your surfaces…"
