Connor was recently photographed holding hands with Maia Reficco, his co-star in upcoming movie A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow, sparking 'straight allegations' on social media.

Back in May he tweeted: "Some people on here know my sexuality better than I do."

The South London born teenager attended Pride London with his Heartstopper co-star Joe Locke in July and the pair were also photographed holding hands.

Since his statement on Twitter many fans have come out in support of Connor.

Author Oseman, who wrote the Heartstopper books commented: "I truly don't understand how people can watch Heartstopper and then gleefully spend their time speculating about sexualities and judging based on stereotypes. I hope all those people are embarrassed as F**K. Kit you are amazing"

Co-star Sebastian Croft wrote: "Kit Connor, the world doesn’t deserve you. Love you my friend."

Pretty Little Liars star Reficco, 22, who was pictured holding hands with Connor in between filming scenes for their new movie, shared a grey heard emoji in response to his tweet.
