Kite Surfer Rescued From Beach After Spelling Out 'Help' With Rocks

A stranded kite surfer was rescued from a remote California beach on June 9 after a helicopter spotted the “Help” sign he’d made in the sand using rocks.

Video from Cal Fire shows the man being extracted by helicopter.

The word “help” can be seen spelled out with rocks near where the man was airlifted. A Cal Fire captain told the Los Angeles Times that it was a private helicopter that spotted the sign.

California State Parks lifeguards then made initial contact with the surfer, and he was determined to be “medically OK”, the Times said. Credit: Cal Fire via Storyful
