Kitten found dead after being abandoned in Shotts

The Scottish SPCA is pleading with the public not to abandon animals they can no longer care for after a kitten was found dead in Lanarkshire on Thursday.

The kitten was dumped in an open top wicker type basket with a grey blanket and soft toy in woodland undergrowth in the Foulburn Road area in Shotts.

Scottish SPCA inspector Steph McCrossan said: “We can’t stress enough that there is no excuse to abandon an animal. There are always other options.

“The kitten, which we think is female, was most likely alive when she was dumped.

“Whoever left her had left some cold meat which tragically became lodged in the kitten’s throat. She was emaciated and had faeces all over her back end when she was found.

“With no CCTV in the area we are asking the public to help with any information.

“If anyone recognises this kitten or has any information surrounding her circumstances, they should call our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
