I know Liverpool fans like him - but there is one question mark over Ruben Amorim

Former Premier League defender Micah Richards has cast doubt over whether Ruben Amorim is the right manager to succeed Jurgen Klopp.

The Portuguese has been fiercely linked as the next man in the Anfield dugout, following Klopp's bombshell announcement at the end of January. After nine years in charge, the 56-year-old will step down from his position - departing with a Champions League and Premier League winners medal in his collection.

This summer poses an important period for Liverpool as they look to avoid a hangover following the seismic change from a departing figurehead. Xabi Alonso was established as the initial favourite to take charge of the Reds but the Spaniard affirmed his intentions to remain in the Bundesliga, as they chase a treble following their historic Bundesliga triumph.

Amorim has since been installed as the favourite to be in charge of Liverpool next summer. Former midfielder Joao Palhinha has endorsed the 39-year-old to be a success on Merseyside but the Sporting CP manager, who is chasing history of his own in Portugal, has played down speculation over his future as he chases a second Liga Portugal title.

While Richards believes Amorim is a good tactician, lauding his intelligence, the former Manchester City raised the question he has over the manager.

"I think the way he plays would be good but I think I seen quotes where he said the rumours about him going to Liverpool are not true and he wants everyone to stop talking about it," he said speaking on the Rest is Football Podcast.

"In terms of could he be good for Liverpool? Definitely. He's intelligent and plays attacking football but he's evolved as a manager because he was at Braga, he did okay there, can he do it in the Premier League so soon?

"That's the one question mark you would have. I've heard Liverpool fans saying they like him and his style of football but you never know."
