Yahoo News Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut Crushes 0-400-0-KM/H World Record
Koenigsegg test driver Markus Lundh set multiple world records in a single run with the Jesko Absolut.
Lundh piloted the Jesko up to a maximum of 256 mph, setting records for 0–250 mph, 0–400 km/h, 0–250–0 mph, and 0–400–0 km/h in a single run.
The Absolut is the high-speed version of the Jesko, with vertical fins in place of the track car's gargantuan rear wing.
On Sunday, June 30, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone broke her own world record in the 400-meter hurdles at the United States Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon. Three days before that, Koenigsegg set four world records in a single high-speed run with the Jesko Absolut hypercar at an airfield in Örebro, Sweden. In much the same way that McLaughlin-Levrone took down a world record she already held, Koenigsegg also nabbed the 0–400–0 km/h throne from itself, though the automaker did use a new model this time.
Koenigsegg test driver Markus Lundh was selected to pilot the Jesko Absolut for the record attempt. He clocked a time of 27.83 seconds, beating out the Koenigsegg Regera's 2023 time of 28.81. If one world record wasn't enough, Lundh blew past the 400-km/h mark and on to a top speed of 256 mph (412 km/h), setting three additional records in the process.
With the Jesko's twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V-8 all hopped up on E85 fuel and pushing 1600 horsepower, Lund rocketed to 400 kph in 18.82 seconds, to 250 mph in 19.20 seconds, and 0–250–0 mph in 28.27 seconds. Incredibly, the reported top speed of 256 mph shows that the Jesko Absolut has even more time in the bank.
According to Koenigsegg, the record-breaking run was conducted around five in the morning to benefit from calm winds and low track and air temperatures. Apart from a roll cage for safety and the seat from a Koenigsegg One:1, the car was in standard condition. It ran on E85 fuel and wore standard Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires.
The success seems to have fueled CEO Christian von Koenigsegg's excitement for more records. "This record run validated the accuracy of the simulated and calculated performance of the Jesko Absolut, which gives us great confidence in its ability to outright be the fastest fully homologated production car in the world," Koenigsegg said. "In parallel, we plan to see what kind of records the Jesko Attack can achieve, given its astonishing track performance."
