Kristijan Lovric sets Aberdeen FC transfer sleuths' tongues wagging with social media move

Kristijan Lovric has sparked rumours of a summer transfer to to Aberdeen.

The 28-year-old, who plays for NK Osjiek in the Croatian top-tier, has sent Dons fans on social media into a frenzy after eagle-eyed supporters noticed that he is now following Pittodrie chief executive Alan Burrows on the social media platform Instagram. The winger is also a follower of Reds defender Slobodan Rubezic who, despite being a Montenegro international, was born in the Serbian capital of Belgrade and may be able to speak the same language as Lovric, who hails from neighbouring country Croatia.

Aberdeen have made excellent use of scouring Europe's lesser known leagues in recent seasons, with Bojan Miovski and Ylber Ramadani who arrived from MTK Budapest and Ester Sokler who was signed from Slovenian outfit NK Radomlje, all becoming big hits in the Granite City. North Macedonian international Miovski is the subject of interest from several top sides around the continent this summer after hitting 44 goals in 94 matches for the club.

Aberdeen banked £1.2million when they sold Albania international Ramadani to Leece last summer having only signed him for around £100,000 12 months earlier. The Dons were also in the Croatian market last season for attacking midfielder Tonio Teklic, before he opted to join Turkish side Trabzonspor from Varazdin.

New Dons boss Jimmy Thelin has already made three signings during the window with the captures of Gavin Molloy, Peter Ambrose and Dimitar Mitov, and more are expected to follow ahead of the new season. The Pittodrie side kick off their Premier Sports Cup group stage campaign with fixtures against Queen of the South, East Kilbride, Airdrieonians and Dumbarton next month before their Premiership season gets underway with a trip to Perth to face St Johnstone on August 5.
