Kym Marsh had teenage crush on 'Corrie' co-star Simon Gregson

Kym Marsh's teenage crush ended up becoming her colleague and on-screen partner when she joined the cast of Coronation Street.

The former Hear'Say star has revealed fancied the street's Steve McDonald, played by Simon Gregson, when she was a youngster and found it funny to be working alongside him years later.

"It was bizarre," she shared in an interview with The Sun. "I told Simon when I started that when I was younger I had a poster of him on my bedroom wall."

Marsh, 44, described the crush as "very strange", adding that she first saw him in the flesh at a Manchester gig alongside his fictional twin Nicholas Cochrane when she was "about 14 or 15".

"I couldn't believe the McDonald twins from Corrie were there. I remember seeing him and thinking, ‘Oh my god, he is so gorgeous, he’s so handsome’," she recalled.

"And then, years down the line, there I am as his girlfriend on Corrie. He thought it was hilarious.”

Marsh joined the soap in 2006 as Michelle Connor and went on to become Mrs McDonald when her character wed Gregson's in 2015.

Like most soap marriages, it didn't have a happy ending as the pair split in 2017 when Steve confessed to fathering a child with Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) in a one night stand.

Marsh left the soap in December last year and has since moved on to presenting stints on The One Show and her new BBC programme Morning Live.

The daytime show, which she hosts alongside Gethin Jones, launched last week.
