Sorcha Eastwood is the new MP for Lagan Valley after dramatically ousting the DUP from the unionist-dominated constituency.

The Alliance representative fought off the challenge of the DUP's Jonathan Buckley, who had moved to Lagan Valley from Upper Bann, as he attempted to retain the seat held by his former party leader Sir Jeffery Donaldson, who stood down following historical rape allegations, which he denies.

However, Mr Buckley saw the DUP vote fall and with Sorcha Eastwood's vote increasing along with the UUP's Robbie Butler, it was Ms Eastwood who captured the seat as the unionist vote split.
