Management and staff from a Lanarkshire pub group stepped up to the mark recently to raise money for Chris’s House.

The Lisini Pub group organised a sponsored walk in memory of Liam Kane, a former employee who tragically took his own life in December last year – aged 27.

Although a final total has yet to be revealed, the Lisini Great Big Chris’s Walk for Liam is expected to raise more than £10k for the charity based in Wishaw which supports people in, or approaching, suicidal crisis.

Liam was the son of two long-serving Lisini employees, Kay and Archie Kane, who between them have been with the company a total of 40 years.

Liam's mum and dad also completed the 12-mile long walk which started at the group’s Dalziel Park Hotel venue in Motherwell on Sunday morning at 10am.

The walkers then made their way to Lisini’s other venues across Lanarkshire, first stopping off at The Parkville in Blantyre; then three miles down the road to Angels in Uddingston; before the last leg – a five-minute walk to the finish at the Castle Rooms where Liam worked the majority of his time.

Almost 100 people took part raising thousands of pounds for Lanarkshire-based charity Chris’s House, which started at Dalziel Park Hotel led off by the Incognito Scooter Club, who are based in East Kilbride, before travelling through Motherwell, Strathclyde Park over Bothwell Bridge into Blantyre and the Parkville, arriving at 1pm.

They then made their way over to Angels Hotel, stopping on Bothwell Bridge to drop roses into the Clyde in memory of Liam. It was then on to the nearby Castle Rooms, where Liam worked and was loved by all, for a celebration of his memory and the opportunity to raise a glass to him.

Bill Sullivan, Lisini’s head of marketing, said: “We don’t have the final total but we’re looking in excess of £10k for Chris’s House.

“Liam’s dad Archie gave an emotional speech at the end.

“Kay and Archie, have been such a massive part of the Lisini family for many years. Liam, who most of us knew, fought a long-running battle with mental health issues which tragically, he lost at the end of last year.

“Liam was helped immensely through personal struggles by Chris’s House and Kay and Archie will be forever grateful for the help Liam and they received.”

Clare Adamson MSP also put forward a motion in the Scottish Parliament commending the pub company for organising the event and raising awareness of mental health issues.
