Large bulldog type dog 'destroyed' after attacking woman leaving her seriously injured

A large bulldog type dog that attacked a woman leaving her seriously injured has been destroyed.

Emergency services raced to McConnel Street in Kelloholm, Dumfries and Galloway, at around 6.25pm Saturday, April 27 following reports of an attack.

Ambulance crews attended and a woman was taken to Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary for treatment. Her injuries were described as serious.

Officers from Police Scotland have now confirmed that the dog has been destroyed after the area in Kelloholm was locked down on Saturday evening.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We received a report of a large bulldog type dog having attacked a woman in the McConnel Street area of Kelloholm around 6.25pm on Saturday, 27 April, 2024.

"Emergency services attended and the woman was taken to Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary for treatment for serious injuries. The dog has been destroyed.

"Officers would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding as enquiries were carried out in the area."
