Large Crowd in Paris Protests Proposed Security Law
Hundreds of demonstrators gathered near the National Assembly in Paris on November 17, against proposed legislation that would criminalize the diffusion of images of police officers where there was an intention to harm.
The bill, proposed by President Emmanuel Macron’s La République En Marche! and its ally, Agir, would introduce a penalty of up to one year in prison and a fine of €45,000 for the distribution of images identifying any police officer or gendarme “with the aim of damaging their physical or psychological integrity”.
Critics, including Reporters Without Borders, said the law could threaten press freedom. Credit: @silencieuuse_demoniaque via Storyful
