Larry David Confronted Elon Musk Over GOP Support After Uvalde Shooting: “Do You Just Want to Murder Kids?”

Larry David confronted Elon Musk over his support for the Republican Party at Endeavor chief Ari Emanuel’s wedding last year, according to Walter Isaacson’s new biography of the tech mogul, Elon Musk.

“Do you just want to murder kids in schools?” the comedian and Seinfeld co-creator reportedly asked Musk at the Hollywood super-agent’s nuptials to fashion designer Sarah Staudinger in France. “No, no … I’m anti-kid murder,” Musk, the Tesla Motors/X/SpaceX billionaire, is said to have replied.

“Then how could you vote Republican?” David followed up.

David, an Emanuel client who officiated the nuptials between the talent agent and Staudinger, Isaacson wrote, confirmed the confrontation to Isaacson, saying, “His tweets about voting Republican because Democrats were the party of division and hate were sticking in my craw. Even if Uvalde never happened, I probably would have brought it up because I was angry and offended.” David was seated at a table that included Musk, Isaacson added, and the Curb Your Enthusiasm star “seemed to be fuming” as he took Musk to task.

The book notes MSNBC Morning Joe co-anchor Joe Scarborough, another wedding guest, had been told by David of the confrontation, and Scarborough “found it all pretty amusing,” Isaacson wrote.

The Elon Musk biography, published by Simon & Schuster, has already risen to the top on Amazon’s nonfiction charts in its first week. The 688-page book explores the 52-year-old’s upbringing in South Africa by his engineer father, Errol Musk, and dietician mother, Maye Musk, and then his global success in the tech business world.

Isaacson shadowed Musk for two years and attended his meetings, toured his companies’ factories and spent hours interviewing Musk and his family, friends, colleagues and critics.

In April 2022, Musk completed the purchase of the social media site Twitter for $44 billion and subsequently changed its brand name to X.

Reps for David and Musk have not yet responded to The Hollywood Reporter‘s request for comment.
