Yahoo News Last bank in County Durham town confirmed to close for good next year
The final bank in one County Durham town has confirmed it will be closing its doors forever next year.
Lloyds Bank has confirmed its Spennymoor Cheapside Branch will close for good on June 26, 2025.
Bank bosses say they are closing the branch because many people are using in person branches "much less".
Data reveals that customers at the branch have fallen by 45% since 2019 and 30% less people are using cashpoints to make transactions.
This equates to 1,025 people using the branch on a monthly basis.
This closure notice comes as it has recently been revealed that a banking hub is set to come to Spennymoor.
The new hubs will consist of a counter service, operated by Post Office employees, where customers can withdraw and deposit money, make payments, and carry out day-to-day bank transactions.
Lloyds wrote: "A Banking Hub is planned for this area. Banking Hubs are shared banking spaces on the high street operated by the Post Office.
"They are open Monday to Friday. Customers of all major banks and building societies can use them to do their everyday banking tasks.
"Our Community Banker will be at the Banking Hub one day a week, so you can come in and do your banking in person.

"To give the Banking Hub time to get up and running we may delay the closure of the branch."
The closest Lloyds branches to Spennymoor residents are now in Bishop Auckland and Durham City Centre.
