Marjorie GETTIG

Marjorie Gettig, RN, born 3rd March 1933 to Edwin and Margaret Thomas of Llewellyn Street, Port Talbot, passed away peacefully on 4th April 2024 in Cleveland, Ohio, USA at the age of 91. At the age of 17, Marjorie left home for the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford to pursue her passion for nursing. Her dedication led her to further training as a midwife. At 23, she travelled to the United States to join the staff at Cleveland's Mt. Sinai Hospital. She met and married Ralph Gettig at Epworth-Euclid United Methodist Church where she remained an active and devoted member for over 60 years. Her involvement in her Church was a cornerstone of her existence. Marjorie is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Andrew (Rachel), Roger (Dawn), and Hugh, and her four granddaughters, Lucy, Alice, Ariela, and Amalie, and nephew Lindsay Poston. Marjorie was extremely proud of her Aberavon origins and remained a devoted fan of Welsh rugby throughout her life. Her legacy of kindness, warmth, and optimism will continue to inspire those who knew her. A memorial service to celebrate Marjorie's life will be held at Epworth-Euclid United Methodist Church in Cleveland, Ohio on Tuesday, 28th May 2024.

Football, rugby, boxing, athletics and particularly cricket, with a long association with the club in Bodedern, he also played for North Wales. The beloved husband of Valerie, loving father of Ian, Richard, David, father-in-law to Stella, Sharon, Keren, doting grandfather of Zoe, Mark, Paul, Morgan, Bethan, Aidan, Robin, Fern and great-grandfather to Myla, Ethan, Esmae. On Saturday 13th of April 2024, Mrs Margaret Elizabeth (Liz) Williams, widow of Dr. John Williams, died peacefully at home in Sketty. Liz worked for many years as Practice Nurse at Uplands and Mumbles surgeries. She was also a long-serving magistrate and retired as Chair of the Swansea Bench. Liz will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jane, Emma and Matthew and by her three grandchildren, Megan, Tomos and Reuben. She will be missed by her family, and by her many friends.
