The month of May will kick off with some seriously depressing weather, according to the latest forecasts.

BBC Weather predicts that that Wednesday, May 1 will see storm clouds roll in over London, bringing with them rain and thunder.

Temperatures won't take a dip, thankfully, but that will come as little consolation to those of us hoping for some summer sunshine some time soon.

This weekend (Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28) will bring light rain and cloudy skies. Monday (April 29) will provide some respite, but Tuesday (April 30) will be wet once more, ahead of Wednesday's thunder.

Between Thursday (May 2) and Sunday (May 5), it's due to rain every day.

So there you have it - May will kick off with some pretty grotty weather. But it's not all doom and gloom - temperatures are definitely on the rise. We've just got to have our fingers crossed that the high mercury will stick about long enough for the sun to break through the clouds, and give us a proper summer.

The Met Office's long range forecast, meanwhile, says that from May 10 onwards, showers will grow less and less likely. There's hope on the horizon after all.
