Rishi Sunak has confirmed a date for the General Election.

Mr Sunak has faced calls for an election and speculation has been building today. Cabinet ministers were called to an urgent meeting at 4pm.

Speaking outside Number 10 Downing Street, Mr Sunak confirmed that the election will take place on July 4. The Liverpool ECHO has launched a WhatsApp community dedicated to sharing the latest updates in the lead up to the General Election and on the day.
