Lee Anderson predicts full English will be classed as 'racist' for no apparent reason

A photo of Lee Anderson's breakfast has gone viral on X (formerly Twitter). The image of the full English, posted by the Ashfield MP at 9.09am on Tuesday, May 21, has been seen 3.5 million times in just over 30 hours.

Anderson captioned the picture with the words: "Full English Breakfast. A great start to the day but how long before some highly educated expert tells us our traditional breakfast is racist?"

And, in true Anderson fashion, the quote started a debate online - with some people discussing his words and others discussing the contents of the plate. On a black tray with a card stating "reserved for members only" on it, the breakfast appears to contain two thin bacon rashers, two blackened sausages, one hash brown, one fried egg, a load of mushrooms, a slice of black pudding and a dollop of ketchup.

Bassetlaw MP Brendan Clarke-Smith - whom Anderson named as one of his four political "friends" that he wouldn't campaign against in a general election - responded: "Outrageous omission of baked beans from that breakfast." Anderson told him he would bring him some "cold ones".

X user Gogzy said: "I hope you didn't pay too much for that. It doesn't look too great." Another user, Daniel, replied: "That looks absolutely tragic" before asking if Reform UK leader Richard Tice cooked it. And Izzy said: "One of the worst breakfasts I have ever seen."

The first one million views on the post came within the first six hours. Anderson acknowledged the fact with a post that said: "1 million views. The power of social media."

When it hit the three million mark, he posted again, at 8.21am on Wednesday morning, May 22. He said: "3 million views. A picture surely does paint a thousand words."

Then he followed it up with another breakfast picture, of a bowl of plain porridge. That one only got 63,000 views - but he did make sure to continue to milk the subject with a poll asking people if they'd choose a full English or porridge.

Full English was winning by 80% of the votes to 20% at the time of writing. Anderson, 57, recently joined the Reform party having being suspended from the Conservatives after refusing to apologise for comments he made about London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

He was previously part of the Labour party between 1983 and 2018 before defecting to the right.
