A third addition of the summer is being chased by Leeds United in the shape of midfielder Joe Rothwell. The 29-year-old is surplus to requirements at Bournemouth and spent the second half of last season on loan at Southampton.

LeedsLive understands Rothwell is in West Yorkshire to undergo his medical ahead of a season-long loan move. Rothwell is an attacking-minded central midfielder and seems most likely to fit in as one of the two players Daniel Farke uses in his 4-2-3-1 pivot.

The former Manchester United trainee would follow Joe Rodon and Alex Cairns as the third signing of the window. Rothwell will have a week with the squad before the opening friendly against Harrogate Town and the subsequent training camp in Germany.

Russell Martin added Rothwell to his Saints squad in January as they aimed for promotion to the Premier League. The midfielder would appear in 16 of the 19 available regular league games, but only started on four occasions, finding the net four times too.

Rothwell came on in the last game of the season at Elland Road, but played no part in the play-off final at Wembley. He may be best known to Leeds fans for his time at Blackburn Rovers, where he spent four years and racked up 149 Championship appearances, scoring 10 goals and creating another 18 in that time.

Rothwell will join a midfield department that waved goodbye to Archie Gray last week. He is set to compete with Ethan Ampadu, Glen Kamara, Ilia Gruev and Charlie Crew for minutes from August 10.
