Leeds United could get FFP boost as price tag named amid talk of departure

The arrival of Red Bull as the new shirts sponsor at Leeds United, combined with their presence as investors has lessened the expectation of too many departures from Elland Road this summer. The shirt deal is understood to be one of, if not the biggest, in EFL history, which in terms of meeting Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) is a big help for the Whites.

While that may be the case, Leeds' financial reports over the past two seasons mean there will still need to be some departures to help balance the books and allow for new faces to come in and give manager Daniel Farke the best possible opportunity to take the club to the Premier League with promotion next season.

Among those who could be departing is defender Charlie Cresswell, a player who has not really had an opportunity under Farke and who is on the periphery of the first team squad. Cresswell may have signed a four-year contract less than 12 months ago, but suggestions are the club are happy to listen to offers for the player.

Those offers may be about to start coming in. Journalist Alan Nixon says German clubs Hannover 96 and Hertha Berlin are both interested in Cresswell, along with French Ligue 1 club Toulouse, opening the door for a potential switch to the continent. Coventry City have also been linked since January with a move for Cresswell, with a figure of between £3m and £4m being reported as a potential fee.

While the expected exit of Crysencio Summerville for over £30m will be the big deal that really benefits Leeds in bringing down the PSR deficit, the type of figures being quoted for Cresswell would also be a significant help in allowing the Whites to freshen up their squad.
