Leeds United transfer decision could hand Rangers a timely summer window boost

It's not just Leeds United fans who are anxiously awaiting news of the latest departures from Elland Road. While the Whites prepare for a host of offers on their top players, Scottish Premiership side Rangers are keeping more than a close eye on developments in West Yorkshire.

Former Gers midfielder Glen Kamara is one of the many names to be linked with a Leeds exit this summer, with French Ligue 1 side Rennes said to be keen on the Finland international. He joined the Whites from Rangers last summer in a £5m deal, going on to play an important part in their promotion bid under Daniel Farke.

While Kamara may not fetch a big money transfer fee that Crysencio Summerville or Georginio Rutter could command, Rennes' interest could spark a move in the coming weeks, and it's one that could benefit Rangers. Reports north of the border say last summer's transfer included a sell-on clause, which would mean a slice any transfer fee heading to Ibrox.

Rangers missed out on a reported £500,000 bonus on the deal after Leeds missed out on promotion to the Premier League, but could yet benefit. Leeds saw Archie Gray depart for Tottenham this week in a bumper deal which helped ease PSR fears.

It means Farke has one less midfield option, although Joe Rodon's permanent arrival from Spurs, along with Pascal Stuijk's return to action following a long injury lay-off, could facilitate Ethan Ampadu moving into a central midfield role next season. Ilia Gruev had also been linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund, although the German side appear to have switched their focus to other targets.

Leeds rejected a £30m bid for Georginio Rutter this week, so have shown they are no pushovers when it comes to transfer fees, but would have to weigh up any offers for Kamara, who will turn 29 in October. The experienced midfielder made 42 appearances in a Leeds United shirt last season after falling out of favour at Ibrox.
