Fans of DC's Legends of Tomorrow were left bereft when Professor Martin Stein and Jefferson Jackson – aka Firestorm – departed the series in the epic Crisis on Earth-X crossover.

Although one was a lot more devastating than the other. (Sorry, Jax.)

So, what – or rather, who – is going to fill that Firestorm-shaped hole in the time-travelling team now that Jax and Stein can no longer fuse together to create the meta-human?

Well, according to Legends of Tomorrow's executive producer Marc Guggenheim, it's going to be a pretty familiar face from the Arrowverse. Intriguing.

"We do have a plan for how to replace Firestorm on the bridge, and it's a really cool one. It's one we're really excited about," he explained (via Comicbook.com).

"There's really like two empty chairs on the Waverider, so we do have a game plan. We've always had a game plan. I just can't talk about the game plan."

When asked if he could give fans any clues as to who will be taking Firestorm's place, Mark confirmed that it would be a "returning" and "previously established" character.

One fan theory that's gaining traction, and one that we definitely approve of, is that it will be none other than John Constantine settling down in the Waverider.

It was confirmed earlier this year that the demonologist would be returning to the Arrowverse following his one-off appearance back in 2015 – and don't worry, it'll be as debauched as you like.

"We knew that an alienated, chain-smoking, bisexual, world-weary demonologist would feel right at home among our Legends," executive producer Phil Klemmer recently teased.

And suggesting that Legends of Tomorrow won't be holding back, Klemmer promised that Constantine will finally bring some "hot sex" to the series.

Legends of Tomorrow will return to The CW next year in the US. Sky One airs the shows in the UK.
