Leicester boasts the most arts events and festivals out of anywhere in the UK and stands fifth overall for its creative and artistic offerings, according to a recent report. A new table shows how cities rank in the arts based on number of museums, art galleries, theatres, art schools and creative jobs, as well as the festivals and events.

The researchers from Adobe Express discovered that Leicester had a massive 1,749 arts events and festivals taking place around the city on a regular basis. Even London only had 1,521. Leicester also boasts 346 people working in "creative jobs" and offers artists a "creatively-nurturing environment in which they can thrive".

Leicester has 2.75 museums per 100,000 people - more than London or Birmingham - and it has 36 art schools of various kinds. It doesn't do as well for art galleries, having 1.38 per 100,000 people, which is the second lowest in the top 15, beating only Birmingham.

It has 1.57 theatres per 100,000 people, which was also a low-scoring area, beating only Birmingham, Coventry and Derby.

Brighton and Hove, which has 26 art galleries for every 100,000 people, topped the top 15, followed by London, Edinburgh and Manchester. Birmingham came out bottom, just under Bristol, Sheffield, Liverpool and Glasgow.

The report states: "Leicester is in fifth place, with a total score of 1.785. This is thanks to the city boasting a whopping 1,749 arts festivals on offer, as well as there being 346 registered creative jobs.

"The city also has 2.75 museums per 100,000 people, such as the Leicester Museum and Art Gallery, which is home to an extensive range of artwork.

"Leicester is also popular in terms of its film and digital art scene, as well as music and performance. The city offers artists a creatively-nurturing environment in which they can thrive."
