Gabriel Pereira has penned what looks to be a farewell message to his Gil Vicente team-mates.

The 24-year-old was sent off in what seems set to be his final match for the Portuguese outfit – albeit after seven minutes into added time at the end of a 1-0 defeat to Estrela Amadora. As a result of the season finale both teams remain in the Primeira Liga.

However, whether Gil Vicente’s centre back stays with the team remains to be seen after speculation linking him with Leicester City. Italian publication Tutto Mercato Web claimed Pereira is a priority target for the Foxes and that they tried to lure him to the King Power in January only to be rebuffed.

It is said Gil Vicente may be more willing to talk and that they want €7m for the Brazilian who has two years left on the contract he signed when he moved from Vilafranquense.

Unfortunately for City Benfica, Braga, Lyon and Udinese are all said to also be interested – but on the other hand it does now seem that Pereira could be preparing for a move.

He took to social media to send a message to his current club – which smacked of a goodbye. He wrote: “End of the season!!! Just to thank God for everything he has been doing in my life, for having kept me and enabled me to complete another era. It was a great pleasure to be part of this group, I will miss every moment, every training, every game, every laugh, it was amazing moments. Thank you for everything FAMILY.”

Pereira played 30 league games and scored four goals for Gil Vicente last season, all of them in the middle of the defence. Born in Brazil he has been playing in Portugal since 2021.
