Leicester City are heading back to the Premier League as champions of the Championship.

Three months ago, it seemed obvious that would happen. Three weeks ago, it didn’t. But after those defeats to Millwall and Plymouth, City have responded with three victories in a row, saving some of their best until last with the wins over Southampton and Preston.

While there is still a game to go, City can now think about the future. That means decisions over contracts and transfers, and the financial implications of both as the club look to stay within Profit and Sustainability rules.

Enzo Maresca wants to sit down with the hierarchy and discuss those matters. He remains irritated by the breakdown of the Stefano Sensi transfer in January and is unlikely to be best pleased if, as expected, City start the new campaign with a points deduction.

On the contract front, there are six players to sort out. It’s looking more and more likely that Jamie Vardy is sticking around, but then there’s Jannik Vestergaard, Marc Albrighton, Dennis Praet, Kelechi Iheanacho, and Wilfred Ndidi to discuss too. If they don’t get new deals, it’s their final game in a City shirt this weekend.
