Leicester South shock as Jon Ashworth loses seat and new MP chosen
Jon Ashworth has lost his Leicester South seat. The Labour MP has represented the constituency in Parliament since 2011, taking over from now city mayor Sir Peter Soulsby.
The votes have now been counted and he has failed to secure another five year term as the local MP. Leicester South instead backed independent candidate Shockat Adam with 14,739 votes.
He beat out eight other candidates also vying for the seat. Mr Ashworth came second with 13,760 votes.

Geraldine Hickton for the Conservatives was third with 4,820 votes. Turnout was 59 per cent.
