Leicestershire's cheapest places for petrol and diesel this Bank Holiday weekend
Ashby is revealed as having the cheapest petrol in Leicestershire for the Bank Holiday weekend. Warnings remain in place as prices continue to rise amid the continued cost of living crisis.
The findings come in latest data from petrol suppliers which showed that as of Friday, May 3, the Tesco petrol station in Ashby’s Resolution Road is the least expensive of all, charging drivers 144.9p per litre. This means it would cost £79.70 to fill up an average 55 litre tank here.
Ashby’s cheap fuel sees it overtake Loughborough’s Sainsbury’s garage in Greenclose Lane as the cheapest in Leicestershire. The data from the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) makes clear that those who fill up at Tesco and have an average family car could save up to £15.40 at the pumps compared to the most expensive petrol station.

The CMA data continues to show rising prices across much of Leicestershire, with the Government body continuing to issue warnings about the price hikes amid the cost of living crisis. Dan Turnbull, senior director of markets at the CMA, said: “Drivers are feeling the pinch as fuel prices have been edging up since January. We’re particularly concerned by high margins which indicate weakened competition and are not a good sign for drivers.”
The latest data reveals that UK drivers are currently paying 149.4p per litre of petrol this week. In Leicestershire, the average price is slightly lower, with drivers paying out 148.9p per litre.
The most expensive petrol station according to the CMA remains the BP station at the Donington Service Area at Junction 23a of the M1 in Castle Donington. Here, it is charging people 172.9p per litre, meaning it would cost a total of £95.10 to fill up an average family car at this forecourt.
